Thanks! Sad to say it is no longer in the family, and I never got a chance to see it. I do know that it was white, though. Other than that, it was identical.

Those are such beautiful cars. Can't believe they bring such a lowball price at auction.

A dealer here in town had back in 2010. It was a 1959, like this one, and it was British Racing green. I had so many wants for that car, but it was $60k. Said dealer also had this other green gem at the time, which was only 40 grand. That was 20k closer to our budget, but still $40k over it.

Oh, how I love the Mk2. Having that family connection with a car is really cool.
Apparently, my grandfather very nearly bought a Mk2 new in the '60s, but because it didn't have room for the family dog, he ended up getting a Triumph 2000 Estate (also very cool, but not quite as cool as a Mk2). He ordered it from the factory in white, with blue interior and a sunroof, but when it arrived, the interior was black, and they forgot the sunroof. Having waited long enough, he took it anyway!
They moved to New Zealand a few years later, taking the car with them. It was his pride and joy – he trusted very few others to drive it, and meticulously took care of it, while at the same time, also using it for hauling boats, caravans, and a family of 6, sometimes all at once. Granddad passed away a few years back, but his Triumph lives on as my grandmother's daily-driver – 46 years, 250,000 miles, and still going strong. It's part of the family identity!

Sorry to hear that you never got to see the Mk2 – they're utterly gorgeous cars. My Dad restored an XK150 when I was young, and I'm not sure if it was the impression that it made on me, or what, but to me, Jaguars of that era are some of the most beautiful cars ever to exist. Also, engine bay shots of that twin-cam six, with all that polished metal, are engine-porn defined.
That Triumph (and my father's subsequent ownership of several like it) is what got me into cars in the first place, and I'm rather fond of them. I'd really like to bring one over to the US one day.
